Next to the capital of the Principality of Asturias, just 20 minutes from the centre of Oviedo, we find the picturesque valley of the river Nalón, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of prehistoric caves in southern Europe, some of them with important examples of rock art that can be visited. A visit to the Oviedo Museum of Archaeology is an essential preface.

Not to be missed: The cave of La Peña de Candamo has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Teverga Prehistoric Park is a unique infrastructure of its kind on the entire Cantabrian coast.

How to get there: The route runs between the capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo, and the Prehistoric Park of Teverga (San Salvador de Alesga), going up the rivers Nalón and Trubia, crossing San Román de Candamo, Priorio, Tuñón and La Plaza (Teverga). It is a 2-day route.
